71Cambodia Coffee - I am going to tell a famous untold secret about Coffee in Cambodia that not many people know about or talk about this at all. If you happen to say yeah, you want to know more about this just keep reading this article with me now that because I knew all about coffee in this kingdom or else just jump to the paragraph below to find out more about coffee types and coffee shops in Cambodia. By now, I am sure you want just follow me with the great story which happen in year 2005 and it is still new to everyone.
There is no specific information/history which I could find to identify when was the time that Cambodia influenced to drink the sort of coffee in the olden day but it existed that the Cambodian people drink coffee hundred years ago.
What people know about coffee today is with 2 types of coffee in Cambodia which is sold at the local restaurant or at the local shop. It is black coffee and coffee with milk or coffee with ice and that is what I knew about as well.
In the past I never thought there are many kind of coffee existed in this world until few years ago I try to taste different coffee and its flavor and discover some great thing from coffees.
Black Coffee
Old people like black coffee with just small cup of coffee for breakfast is good enough to start a new day and stay awake for renewing the brain after the long sleep last night. It is found that at the local shop/restaurant sell black coffee to mostly old people and rarely young people drink this kind of coffee.
Coffee with Milk
Young people from 18 years old to 30 years old or even older than this like to drink coffee with milk. This kind of coffee is a sell well product because most people like coffee with milk.
Coffee with Ice
Coffee with Ice is found to be ranked in number 2 after coffee with milk. Any ages can drink coffee with ice but kids don't drink coffee.
I don't know how to say this is type of coffee or not but I guess this is not type of coffee, just a classify of popular coffee that found selling in Cambodia.
In the recent years, there are coffees that import from other countries to sell to the local people and to those who move to live or to work in Cambodia long term/short term as the target market of the product owners.
Stung Treng Coffee
In late 2005, I went to join a friend wedding in Seam Pang district, Trung Treng province the north eastern part of Cambodia. I got to wake up early in the morning and started driving the truck from Phnom Penh city and reached Stung Treng around 10pm at night. It was a great experience driving on the bumpy road the whole day. After arriving, everyone in the truck looked so tired because they have to hold the seat all the time without sleeping. Nobody can sleep going through this such a fantastic road.
The next morning was a wedding day and everyone had breakfast with a great coffee served by the relatives of the wedding family. I can tell you, the coffee from Stung Treng was wonderful. The flavor was hard to find in Cambodia compare to the local coffee that is grown there. I hope to go back there again and taste it since I now start to drink coffee almost daily.
What I have to find out is to learn how to make coffee like people in Stung Treng to make the taste really good as it is. I should have bought some home, unfortunately I forgot to order and we had to leave in the morning so just thought and it reminds me want to go there again.
Coffee Today
There are many kind of coffee today but not all made in Cambodia which is mostly import such as instant coffee, coffee shops that I cannot remember all the name. Every time, I come to the restaurant for breakfast, I take one coffee.
I like ice coffee with milk, but must be not so sweet. I don't drink sweet coffee. At home, I use 3 in 1 instant coffee after breakfast. That's cool so can start the day with a cup coffee.
